Subject: Promotion of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme by CityU faculty
To: SGS < sg@cityu.edu.hk>
To: All faculty members
From: Dean of Graduate Studies
Date: 10 August 2009
Dear Colleagues,
In early 2009, the Research Grants Council (RGC) announced the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme which aims to recruit the best and brightest students in the world to pursue PhD study in Hong Kong. Under this Scheme, each applicant may choose up to two programmes in one or two Hong Kong institutions. Applications to the Fellowship Scheme will be invited from 8 September - 1 December 2009.
The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (~US$2,600), and conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~US$1,300) per year for the awardees for three years of studies. In addition, Fellowship recipients at CityU will be awarded the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Entrance Scholarship, which covers students' tuition and on-campus hostel accommodation fees in their first year of research studies.
In relation to this, I am writing to appeal to you for your help in promoting the research degree study opportunities at CityU and in publicizing this Scheme directly to your overseas academic and research counterparts/partners. To serve this purpose, SGS has prepared a brief introduction of the Scheme and an e-poster (attached). It would certainly be more helpful and effective if you could help disseminate the message and e-poster through your academic or research network. Please invite your research collaborators/partners to recommend outstanding graduates who are interested in pursuing PhD study at CityU in September 2010.
I look forward to your support in the recruitment of outstanding students to study at CityU. Should you need any further information, please contact Miss Millie Mark (telephone no.: 3442 8984 or email: millie.mark@cityu.edu.hk) or Ms Alexandra Wong (telephone no.: 3442 9075 or email: sgalex@cityu.edu.hk).
Regards,
Roderick Wong
Dean of Graduate Studies
