Brief Biography of Venerable Dr.Dhammarakkhita
DR.DHAMMARAKKHITA
He was born in Taungtha on February 16,1952.His parents are U Tun and Daw Thein, and he is the eldest of six sibblings.He passed the Higher Education from State High School in Taungtha and his B.A degree in 1977 and his M.A degree in 1984.He married with Daw Yi Yi Mar in 1984 and had two sons.Maung Arcane Tin Aye and Maung Aung Zeya.He became a tutor at Department of Psychology in Yangon University in 1981 and was promoted to assistant lecturer at the Central Institute of Public Services(C.I.P.S) Phaung Gyi in 1985.He resigned from his occupation as research officer in 1989.
He has been ordained as a Buddhist monk since November ,1992.
He has devoted his life in concentration, meditation and contemplation.He became a fellow of Yangon Theosophical Society in 1974 and had dedicated his life to practising the path of dicipleship.He achieved some mystical experiences such as astral projection(out of body experience).
He was a correspondent student of the Arcane School in London and he was a fellow of The Scientific and medical Network in London.His soly concern is selfless service to the world through the power of the mind -deliverance of loving-kindness ( Metta- Cetovimutti ).
He has practised Buddhist Samatha and Vipassana Bhavana since 1980 at various meditation centres in Myanmar.It is his strong belief that the attainment of world peace is only through the perfection of the human mind, accompanied by loving-kindness.
In the world as a whole there is enough money and material goods and there is no lack of intellect,yet something is missing.What is it?
Once in intoxicated elephant was driven towards the Buddha in an effort to kill him.The Buddha calmly radiated his love towards the elephant and subdued it.Why are we, the sons and daughters of Buddha, reluctant to use that power when we encounter danger?
In 1980,he opened his spiritual workshop for those who are keenly interested in meditation.The meditation subjects are Anapanasati (Watching over in and out breathing) and loving kindness.
He also set up the Peace Mission through the mind-deliverance of loving -kindness.This new group of World Servers regularly radiate boundless loving -kindness waves all over the world.
For the selless service and deication to the welfare to mankind, he was conferred the honourable degree of Doctor of Medicine (Medicina Alternativa)-M.D(M.A) in November 1994 and in 1995 D.Sc(H.C)(Doctor of Science-Honorics Causa) from the Open International University for the Complementary Medicine in Colombo, Srilanka.
In 1996, Venerable Dr.Dhammarakkhita was invited to attend a Monastic conference in the U.S.A of which was attended by monks(women and men),and lay people dedicated to this service.In the same year he was invited to speak and teach meditation at the Buddhist- Christian Conference held DePaul University;Chicago,Illinois, USA.
He is now Chief Meditation Conductor at the Mental Energy Research Centre/ Monastery in Lombard, Ilinois USA and speaks and teaches throughout the world.
