Metta Stanza
Buddha asks that we love all beings as a mother loves her only child. Following are two forms of sending metta. In Myanmar (Burma), all yogis have to recite three times the following stanzas together:
1. May all sentient beings be cheerful and be endowed with a happy secure life.
2. May all the frail ones and the firm creatures be cheerful and be endowed with a happy secure life.
3. May all those who are seen and those unseen be cheerful and be endowed with happy secure life.
4. May all those who are dwelling far and near be cheerful and be endowed with happy secure life.
5. May all those who are already born and those still yet to be born be cheerful and be endowed with a happy secure life.
6. May all tall, short and medium-sized beings be cheerful and be endowed with a happy secure life.
7. May all big, small and medium-sized beings be cheerful and be endowed with a happy secure life.
8. May all fat, thin and medium-sized beings be cheerful and be endowed with a happy secure life.
9. Let not one be angry with one another, let them not despise anyone in anyplace.
10. By means of physical and verbal provocation or by frustrated enmity, let one not wish another’s suffering.
11. By holding the mind steadily in the light within the head, one should contemplate each stanza.
It sounds simple but is so difficult to practice. If you can practice accordingly, you will be successful in dealing with others.TRY—–TRY—–
